Synopsis – One of the most traumatic events of the early stages of the civil war in Sri Lanka is the burning of the Jaffna Public Library in 1981, which housed more than 97,000 books and irreplaceable palm leaf manuscripts. The wanton burning of one of the most important libraries of Tamil literature was a major loss to Tamil cultural heritage. This documentary attempts to document the war scarred life of the library and the socio-political violence connected with it.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker.
